Quote:How many and which aircraft are in the USS Carl Vinson?
- About 65 planes and helicopters.
The typical air wing for a Nimitz class carrier is 24–36 F/A-18E or F Super Hornets and 2 squadrons of 10–12 F/A-18C Hornets as strike fighters, 4–6 E/A-18G Growlers for e-warfare, another 4–6 E-2C or D Hawkeye for Airborne Early Warning, a C-2 Greyhound for logistics, and 6–8 anti-submarine SH-60 and HH-60 helicopters. I believe the Carl Vinson currently carries around 65 aircraft of different types, although the number of F/A-18E Super Hornets is down by one due to a recent crash.
The Nimitz-class supercarriers can support up to 130 Super Hornets, or 85–90 fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters of various types. During peacetime, the usual number is anywhere from 60–70 planes.
